Almost all of them include the exact same boring discs and sound like they were written by a robot.
So I decided to write a review that includes new/smaller brands as well as the classics.

Mint Discs Goat
As a dedicated disc golfer, I’m always on the lookout for new discs to add to my collection. When I heard about the Mint Discs Goat, I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Mint Discs is one of my favorite companies, known for their high-quality plastics and well-crafted discs. However, after testing out the Goat, I found that it fell a bit short of my expectations. Let me break it down for you:

- Stable distance driver with a predictable fade
- Boasts a reliable and consistent fade at the end of the flight
- Flatter profile compared to other Destroyer-esque discs
Just like other Mint Discs, the Goat’s plastic looks and feels amazing. As a fan of MVP plastics, I must say that Mint’s Apex plastic holds up to my high standards. It offers a great grip and feels comfortable in the hand. The Goat also has a flatter profile, which I personally prefer in my discs.
However, that’s where the positives somewhat end for me. When I threw the Goat, I noticed a lack of glide and an extremely overstable flight. The disc seemed to fly like a brick with no significant distance. Now, I don’t claim to have a cannon for an arm, but I was surprised that I couldn’t even break the 300-foot mark with this disc. I know I can throw farther than that, so it was disappointing to see the lack of distance.
That being said, if you’re in the market for a 12-speed disc that can handle windy conditions and always provide a reliable fade, the Goat might be a good fit for you. However, if you’re like me and are looking for a distance driver with some extra glide and distance potential, the Goat may not meet your expectations.
It’s worth mentioning that the Goat’s flight characteristics may vary depending on weight. I found that the lighter weights tended to be more overstable with less glide, while the heavier weights provided slightly better distance. So, if you have a more powerful arm, you might find better results with the lighter weights.
Discraft Nuke
You can’t write about the best overstable disc golf drivers without talking about the Discraft Nuke. This distance driver is the epitome of power and control, making it one of the most popular discs in the world. With its wide, heavy rim and refined aerodynamic engineering, the Nuke delivers virtually effortless maximum distance for moderate to expert players.

Unfortunately, I lost it and spent months searching for a suitable replacement. Fast forward seven years, and the Nuke has become my go-to distance driver, particularly for windy conditions and forehand/sidearm throws. It even works well for backhand shots, depending on the situation.
One thing to note is that the Nuke requires a certain level of throwing power, so it may not be the best choice for beginners. However, as someone who has developed a strong forehand throw, I find this disc to be superb. With good technique, I consistently achieve great distance and precise shot-shaping. That being said, my backhand is not yet strong enough to fully utilize the Nuke’s capabilities.
If you’re looking for predictable distance and a disc that can fill all slots of distance drivers as it beats in, the Nuke is a must-try. Though it may not be beginner-friendly, experienced players with the right technique and power will absolutely appreciate this disc.
I highly recommend giving the Discraft Nuke a chance. It’s a true distance driver that delivers exceptional performance for experienced players.
MVP Photon
The MVP Photon is legit underrated.
This distance driver offers outstanding stability, incredible control, and impressive distance potential. With its sleek design and reputation for high speed turn, the Photon is a go-to choice for power throwers and players seeking reliability in their shots.
Here’s why the Photon has become one of my favorite discs:

Let me start by saying that this disc is BEEFY! Some argue that the Photon is more overstable than its advertised flight numbers, but I beg to differ. In my experience, when thrown with enough power, it performs like any other 11 speed negative one disc. However, what sets the Photon apart is its association with GYRO technology, which tends to make discs a little faster than advertised. This, paired with its excellent stability, makes it a favorite among power throwers like James Conrad and Simon Lizotte.
What truly stands out to me about the Photon is how it feels in my hand. If you find 12+ speed discs uncomfortable, the Photon is a game-changer. Its 11 speed design somehow manages to feel slimmer than most other options within the same speed range.
I particularly enjoy throwing the Fission Photon, as the Fission plastic allows me to dig my hand into the disc, providing superior grip and control. Once I beat it in a bit, I noticed it flew more in line with its flight numbers, matching the intended distance I was aiming for. I also have a Proton Photon, which perfectly complements the Fission version. It flies like an 11 5 0 3 for me and feels exceptional for forehand throws.
While some variation in the Photon mold exists, I currently carry two Photons in my bag, using them as my primary low-flight bombers. Even in slight winds, they prove to be remarkably workable and predictable. As someone relatively new to the sport, I quickly fell in love with the Photon and consider it one of my favorite molds.

Its reliable stability and wind-resistance make it an ideal choice for power throwers looking for extended flights.
